Mental Health Resources

Life in a pandemic can take a serious toll on your mental health. If you need anyone to talk to about academic life or personal issues,  Peer Support Services are here for you. Here is a link to their QC website and a link to their Facebook page. I recommend checking out their Facebook page first because it contains more information, but you do not need an appointment to meet with a peer counselor. You can click this zoom link and speak to a counselor any time during their office hours. The Zoom Meeting ID is 922 646 2060

Lastly, CUNY also created a Crisis hotline for anyone who may need to speak to someone about any crisis. You can text CUNY to 741741 from anywhere in the United States and a trained crisis counselor will respond. This hotline is available at any time, day or night. I am attaching a poster with more information to this announcement. 

QC IT Help Desk

If you encounter any technology issues that you need help resolving, contact the QC Help Desk. To make in person inquires, you can reach the Help Desk in Kiely Hall rm 226. To receive virtual support, you can call them at (718) 997-4444 or send an email to [email protected].

Queens College Library

Here is the link to the Queens College library where you can easily use CUNY OneSearch to locate articles, books, and videos to use in pursuit of your research. If you have any questions about research or want to speak to a librarian, you can email [email protected]. Alternatively, you can also text a librarian at 646-956-3707. There is also a 24 hour live chat option available on the QC Library homepage.

Writing Resources

If you need additional help with your writing beyond our class or my office hours, you are welcome and encouraged to utilize any of the following writing resources:

— The Writing Center in Kiely Hall 229 (phone: 718-997-5676) provides free writing support services to all enrolled Queens College students and is a helpful resource for writers at any level. Visit their web site to make an appointment.
— The Purdue OWL Writing Lab is an invaluable reference for citation formatting and style.
— The University of North Carolina Writing Center has numerous helpful handouts on writing.

Office of Special Services (OSS)

If you have or develop any condition that might require accommodation in this class—for example, a medical condition—you should immediately contact the Office of Special Services (OSS) in 171 Kiely Hall at 718-997-5870. OSS will ensure you receive any additional support needed to fully participate in and succeed at this course (and QC). You are welcome to inform me if you are comfortable doing so. We all have different ways of learning. Please communicate with me as soon as you can about your individual learning needs and how this course can best accommodate them.

CUNY Academic Integrity Policy

College Writing will provide you with strategies for working ethically and accurately with the texts you engage. We will discuss source use practices that prevent plagiarism, a serious academic offense that runs counter to our academic community’s core values of honesty and respect for others.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR READING the CUNY Policy on Academic Integrity, which states that plagiarism is the act of presenting another person’s ideas, research, or writing as your own. 

INTERNET PLAGIARISM includes submitting downloaded term papers or parts of term papers, paraphrasing or copying information from the internet without citing the source, and “cutting and pasting” from various sources without proper attribution. 

PURCHASING ESSAYS: Web sites and businesses set up to sell papers to students often claim they are merely offering “information” or “research” to students and that this service is acceptable and allowed throughout academia. This is absolutely untrue. If you buy and submit “research,” drafts, summaries, abstracts, or final versions of a paper, you are committing plagiarism and are subject to stringent disciplinary action.

Final drafts that contain plagiarism will receive a zero grade, may result in failure of the course, and the case will be reported to Queens College.
